Calculating Savings

To find out how much you may be able to save through upgrading your lighting as a part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct), use our EPAct 2005 Opportunity Calculator.

The lighting savings opportunities in the Energy Policy Act are based on the ASHRAE 90.1-2001 standard, and are calculated based on the type of space being upgraded (Office, Manufacturing, Healthcare, School). For example, if the lighting power density (or watts-per-square-foot) in your office is currently 1.5, and an upgrade brought it down to 0.9, this would be a 40% improvement, entitling you to the full $0.60 per square foot tax deduction.
